What do I do with this coffee?
|
Jul. 3rd, 2008 @ 01:05 pm

|
I drink a lot of coffee these days. Working at Starbucks has done that to me. I've always been a caffeine addict, but lately I've taken it to whole new levels. When I'm at work, I drink espresso beverages for free, but at home I stick to coffee. I love it. What else can I say?
Recently, I've noticed that after a while my coffee gets to be room temperature! Oh noes! It has always saddened me... particularly when I know I have no hot coffee with which to refresh my delicious beverage. That is, until today. "What does Greg do with his coffee once it's no longer hot enough to drink," you might be asking yourself. Well, let me tell you!
I take my cup of coffee to the kitchen, where I keep all of my food and dishes, and I set it down on the counter. Then I get a tall clear glass and fill it half-way with ice. Next, I pour the coffee over ice. Voila! Iced coffee! Then (yes, it gets better), I fill the glass the rest of the way with milk.
No longer let your cooled coffee go to waste... join me in drinking delicious iced coffee with milk. |

I've opened a ticket with LJ support to have the feed URL for binary_snobbery changed from index.rdf to index.xml, so that feed will start working again soon. Hooray for web stats reports and access to logs.
I've made a few changes to the site again.. Fixed the links in my feed so that they use the new URL style.. so if you've subscribed, I apologize for making all your posts unread. I also added a favicon! :D No srs web comic is srs without a favicon.ico. It's my little stick-figure man with the flower on his head. I'm keeping the flower. I really like it. I also took the time to fix the SQL injection vulnerability in the script I use to post new entries. Huzzah for PHP (mysql_real_escape_strings()). I even made the script check for the existence of a file before it's uploaded. *grin* Next on the list for that is an error box that allows me to overwrite comics. I'm trying to do as little comic editing from the shell as possible. It makes me feel better about life, plus I'd be using PHP to insert data into the MySQL db anyway. *shrugs*
In other news, I'm declaring a major in Computer Science next week. After careful, arduous consideration over the past five months (since being let go at Reflex due to downsizing), I realized it's high time I get real about my priorities. I made a list. Music was much, much lower on the list than I'd expected it ever would be. Truth be told, it's just a hobby. It's always been that... albeit my favoritest of hobbies. I'm pretty damn serious about classical music.
I met with an adviser in the CS department who said I'd have a pretty light classload next year -- there are a couple of bottle-neck courses (Java 1 and C# 1) that I have to get through, before I can take everything else. So I'll be taking those, hopefully concurrently, in the fall. I must also start brushing up on math again. I've been reviewing pre-calc, and need to start reviewing trig too. I'm sure I can find some good places to do that on the internets. I'm going to audit a trig class this fall, and I may actually continue with my music studies. There's no point in dropping the major if I don't have to. Woot for double majors. It'll mean an extra year in school, but I'm hoping to get an IT job there that will make me feel a bit better about things.
Next up in the comic:
Defined characters -- this is going to take some time, but I think I've just about got the art down for flowerguy. Submit your entries for the naming contest via comments. That's right.. I'm having a naming contest for my characters (A la mcmlxxiv's recent fish naming contest.)
Additional characters -- I'd like to introduce another character soon. I'll be naming this one myself based on the name you give me for flowerguy. I like flowerguy, but I don't want to call him that.. but it would be kinda funny to have flowerguy and then just make that the motif: funny things on their heads. Hmm... *ponders*
That's today's ridiculously huge update. *hugs* |

Alright.. almost all of my TODO's are finished on the comics site.
I now have an RSS Feed. It's still in testing.. It should work alright, though. I've also started to use mod_rewrite so there are no more pesky .php links. Huzzah.
Now I'm off to fix my updater script, which is currently vulnerable to SQL injection. :o Yikes! |

the web comic...

I'm only up to 8 comics at the moment, but I'm still going. There's an RSS feed in the works (I'm in the middle of rewriting the little engine that blogs -- once that's done, it's on to RSS land).
Yes.. I realize that there are other comics that also draw stick figures (I'm a big fan of xkcd and toothpaste for dinner).. but i'm neither of those guys. :) and i can't draw, but always wanted a web comic. well.. i have the power. |

another big month in gaming:
first, is a small flash game called You Have to Burn the Rope. I highly recommend everyone play this at least for a couple minutes, especially if you have never beaten a video game before.
next up are the third entries of a couple of longstanding video game franchises
first is Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse for the NES. this one plagued me for a while, and i never got around to beating it, but it now sits nicely in my list of completed castlevania games as number 11.
the other is Final Fantasy III, originally for the famicom, but i played the updated version for DS. including spinoffs, this is the 15th FF title i've beaten. the list comprises I, II, III, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, Legend, Tactics, Tactics Advance, Mystic Quest, and Fables: Chocob Tales.
after a few months, i finally finished this puzzle game Pic Pic on my DS, which means completing a total of 1200 puzzles.
and the most eccentric of this months games is Virtual Boy Wario Land. i borrowed my friend's virtual boy, and i think this may be the only game i ever finish on the console. after playing for ten minutes, i would get a headache. luckily this game only takes about an hour total to finish. the 3d is cool, though |

"Our Impulses are being re-directed."
"We are living in an artificially induced state of consciousness that resembles sleep. The poor and the underclass are growing. Racial justice and human rights are nonexistent.
They have created a repressive society and we are their unwitting accomplices ...their intention to rule rests with the annihilation of consciousness.
We have been lulled into a trance.
They have made us indifferent, to ourselves, to others, we are focused only on our own gain. They are safe as long as they are not discovered ...that is their primary method of survival. Keep us asleep, keep us selfish, keep us sedated...they are dismantling the sleeping middle class.
More and more people are becoming poor. We are their cattle. We are being bred for slavery." |
